Broken Wonders 1.0 release notes

Broken Wonders now has an official 1.0 release. This is the end of the early access, with a much more balanced game (but still open to updates and enhancements although I think major changes are unlikely).

The changes from the previous versions (v0.7) are :

General

  • New character & reference sheets.
  • The score requirements for abilities or background have been completely removed. And it's far better that way.
  • The abilities have been classified directly by background, which is more readable and allows you to easily print your background sheet.
  • The levels of spells and miracles have been completely revised and rebalanced. Many spells and miracles have also been modified.
  • Gather information rules have been modified quite a bit and are now more inspired by the rules of PbtA than Blades.  In game, they are used more often by players, who find them more useful.
  • Some changes on Fatigue rules.
  • You now gain xp on desperate action rolls and on fumble. But training was removed from downtime because it was easy to abuse and was actually a pretty dull way to get xp.
  • Downtime recovery rules for harm and stress have been modified. It takes longer to remove fatigues.
  • Added more examples of conditions.
  • Added new rules for creating your own spells and miracles.
  • Added alternative rules for various playstyles.
  • Added some random tables.
  • Hireling wages.
  • Minor wording changes for clarity in a lot of places. Especially the consequences and the chapter on NPCs.

Items and loadout

  • The starting equipment has been slightly modified.
  • Added price for storage, load of a person, load of coins.
  • More stress if encumbered. +1 stress per load in excess
  • Important changes on armor and shields.
  • Extended item  list

Abilities

All those listed have been modified. Name changes also go hand in hand with a change in the ability.

  • Iron Will has been replaced by Cold Blooded.
  • Armor of piety is now a miracle, not an ability.
  • Athletic Dodge has been replaced by Fluidity.
  • Favored Weapon has been replaced by Momentum.
